Imposter
This book is difficult to convey in a still image. The piece speaks about the duality of my life at the time it was created. I had a cohort of classmates and friends in my school life and a completely separate circle of people at home and in my neighborhood. As a non-traditional student I felt I didn’t quite have a full place in either world. I was also battling with feelings of insecurity about my skills as an artist and my competency as a mother, which is why the visual theme has a comic book superhero feel. I felt as though I was always in disguise. My true identity was hidden in the center of the book. This piece has a modified coptic binding, a do-si-do structure, and a locked (bound on both sides) center. The pages were designed digitally.
