Tabitha
“Tabitha” was inspired by a story in the book “Untamed” by Glennon Doyle. Tabitha, the cheetah, is caged in a zoo, but Glennon still sees a glimpse of wild freedom in its eyes. She recognizes her own loss of wild freedom and tells her story of becoming untamed. This piece—and the experience of going to Penland where I created this work—were an effort to tap into my own untamed potential. The process for this piece included sketching, embroidering into a thin, water-soluble material, pulling handmade sheets of paper, and fusing the embroidery to the paper as it dried. This piece was created at Penland School of Craft in 2021.
